English language proficiency levels

A1, A2, B1, B1+, C1, C2?

There are various tests that you can take to find out your level of English, but first let’s find out what the levels of proficiency are.
ENGLISH LEVEL SCALE according to the Council of Europe Directives and the Cambridge University Press methodology:

A1
“Starter” Beginner level. Can understand and use familiar essential expressions and key phrases to meet specific needs. They can introduce themselves and the other person, ask questions of a personal nature (e.g. where they live, who they know, what things they have) and answer the same questions. They can converse very easily, as long as they speak slowly, clearly and are willing to help.


A2
“Elementary” Beginner level. Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to key areas of life (e.g. personal, family, shopping, local geography, work). Can communicate in normal everyday situations about familiar subjects, simply by asking for or giving information. They can use simple language to talk about their education, their immediate environment and basic needs.


B1
“Pre-intermediate” low-advanced level. Can understand the main points of clear texts about familiar subjects encountered at work, school, on holiday, etc. Can cope with most situations when travelling in the country where the target language is spoken. Can communicate in most predictable situations in everyday life and some unexpected situations. Can produce simple, coherent text on topics that are common or of interest to them. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes, wishes, briefly state reasons and explain opinions or plans.


B2
“Upper-intermediate” Advanced level. Able to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, as well as specialised discussions on professional topics. He is able to communicate spontaneously and freely enough, both orally and in writing, so that communicating with native speakers without causing them tension and without feeling it himself is quite possible. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of topics and explain his/her views on the issues at stake, outlining the advantages and disadvantages of different options.


C1
“Advanced” Advanced level. Can understand a variety of complex, long texts and comprehend the subtext. Can express his/her opinions, attitudes and views spontaneously, freely and without prolonged search for means of expression. Be able to use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Able to produce clear, well-constructed, detailed text on complex topics, adhering to the requirements of style and form, using appropriate means of coherence.


C2
“Proficiency” proficiency levels. Can easily understand the gist of everything they hear or read, coherently recount discussions, stories or opinions, and summarise information from different sources they read or listen to. Can express his/her opinions, attitudes and views spontaneously, freely and accurately, conveying nuances of meaning, even in more complex situations. This level is often the case for people who use language as a working tool (translators, teachers, etc.), on a par with native speakers of English.

Follow 4 4 parts of the test to get a score for each language area:
Listening test
(LISTENING)
vocabulary test
(VOCABULARY)
grammar test
(GRAMMAR)
reading test
(READING)


At the end of each part of the test you will receive a grade
(A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) and replies explaining the errors. Write down or take a photo of the results of each part of the assessment.
