DISCIPLINE is essential for achieving goals and learning. And the best way to follow a rhythm, a regimen, to demand change from yourself is PLANNING, which is why I recommend everyone to have a workbook. Consistent planning of your time helps you to save time and get much more done. Planners/workbooks that open up and show you the whole week are particularly useful. Electronic weekly activity planners on your phone or computer are also very useful.
So, if you’re always missing things, want to achieve something, like learning English, but can’t find the time, I recommend getting a workbook and keeping it up to date every day. You will see how much you can get done with a plan and goals.
JTo make learning meaningful and fun, write down a detailed learning plan. Divide the big goal of LEARNING ENGLISH into 10 steps. What exactly will you do and at what time?
For example:
1) learn English twice a week with a teacher;
2) learn 3 new words every day;
3) watch a film in English once a week;
4) find a pen pal and write messages in English, etc.
Try to get as much English as possible in your daily activities. Work out how you will reward yourself when you reach certain learning milestones.
Primary school pupils know that their English teacher will reward them with a sticker, stamp or praise for their work. Such small gifts motivate children.
Older pupils or adults should also keep the incentives in mind. Treat yourself!
For example :
1) You’ve learnt a difficult subject – treat yourself to chocolate;
2) You’ve learnt 50 new words – go on a fun trip;
3) You’ve completed a year’s course in English – go on a trip and develop your foreign language in a natural environment etc.
Motivation requires a lot of imagination and an activity plan (1 step -1 prize).
So take a piece of paper and write down your 10 steps and 10 rewards. And at the end, give yourself a MAX gift for learning, for striving!
